Corrientes boasts a strong culture, including Chamamé music and dance, as well as Guarani traditions. Since the 1980’s, chamamé has become a mainstay of Argentine music, cross-breeding with musical styles from all over the north of Argentina and even Brazil to produce the genre, which is much in vogue in all of the country. Famous correntinos from history are independence heroJosé Fransisco de San Martín and Juan Bautista Cabral.Legend says he gave his life for the General San Martin in the Battle of San Lorenzo. Tourist destinations in the Corrientes Province include the Iberá Wetlands and theMburucuyá National Park. |

Corrientes CapitalCorrientes is the oldest city in Argentina, founded in 1588 and is the capital of the province. It is located on the eastern shore of the Parana River, about 1,000 km from Buenos Aires along National Route 12. It has a population of 328,689 inhabitants – and only .2% of them are born again believers. The city gets its name from the river, since this is the place where navigation is very difficult due to fluctuating currents. (Corrientes is Spanish for currents.) As the provincial capital, Corrientes is the most important city in the province and serves as the economical center as well as the location for authorities and governmental institutions. Inside the capital city, we are currently working in Barrio Jardín (Garden Neighborhood) leading small group Bible studies designed to create new churches. |
